Their Reception and Placement Program is also at the heart of what they do. To date, they have resettled over 350,000 refugees who have come to the United States. 

In addition to these services, they also run a shelter for unaccompanied girls between the ages of 13 – 17. It is a place for girls to recover after a traumatic journey and prepare for the road ahead. While there, they also get access to legal services.

In 2017 they began their Refugee Health Service. Based out of Texas and Missouri, people receive a comprehensive medical exam after arrival in the United States.

The Robin Hood Foundation is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization, and they partner and fund hundreds of other nonprofits to bring much needed services to the city’s residents – including housing, education, legal services, workforce development, and food. Every year, they help hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to get out of poverty. 

In 2012, the organization launched Poverty Tracker, which is a long term study that follows thousands of New York households quarterly over the course of many years. The study has helped shine a light on the true effects that poverty has on families, and how racial inequality plays a significant role in poverty in the city.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, HHI has distributed ‘Stay Healthy’ kits that include hygiene products to help curb the spread of the virus. The organization has given $2 billion in aid, as well as shipped medical supplies to 131 countries. 

Recently the organization deployed medical teams in Haiti after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that devastated the island nation on August 14th this year as part of their disaster relief response. 

In 2020 they responded to the tornado in Tennessee by sending 2,000 hygiene kits to people affected by the disaster. 

Throughout September, they are offering COVID-19 vaccinations in Missouri to improve access to this critical vaccine. 

HHI sends medical supplies to clinics and medical teams all over the world, including to men, women, and children in refugee camps. They also support lab services such as drawing blood and running tests in underserved communities. 

In 2016, HHI created the PowerServ division, which hosts corporate team building events.

Commissioner of the FDA, Janet Woodcock has said that, along with the elderly, booster shots will be available for healthcare workers, teachers, daycare staff, grocery workers, people in homeless shelters, and those in prisons. Booster shots should be taken six months after receiving the second dose. 

The Pfizer vaccine, now with the brand name Comirnaty, is so far the only vaccine that has been approved by the FDA. This vaccine, as well as others, is still available under emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has rigorous standards for making vaccines available for emergency use. 
During this pandemic, the Garces Foundation team has been working hard to help families through the crisis. They have hosted community health days where people can get vaccinated, and they have been delivering food boxes to families that have faced hardship during the pandemic. Robert Kurzban has served the foundation as Grants Coordinator and Director of Development, helping to secure funding necessary for the Garces Foundation to continue the work they do.

The Garces Foundation Food Pantry has provided 14,521 boxes of food to families in their local community with help from volunteers, donors, community partners, and local restaurants. Each box provides one week worth of food to a family in need. 

The food pantry began with funding from the Patricia Kind Foundation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many families have struggled to put food on the table, so the Garces Foundation plans on continuing this program for as long as the funding allows. 

Families are given a code and notified where they can pick up their box, which is filled with fresh and nutritious food, at no cost to them. 

Robert Kurzban originally joined the Garces Foundation team as Grants Coordinator and has since been promoted to Director of Development. In this role, he utilises his wealth of knowledge in nonprofit development and fundraising. His team at RE:Writers also provides writing service to non profit organizations in the form of grant proposal development. 

This past year has been difficult for so many families, and immigrant communities have been hit especially hard with the pandemic, but the Garces foundation is doing its part to tackle food insecurity.

Robert Kurzban has represented the team as Grants Coordinator and Director of Development since 2020, and is experienced in securing funding for projects that make an impact. Kurzban was selected to receive the Hero Award in 2021 on behalf of the Garces Foundation. 

People can sign up for twelve weeks of “English for the Restaurant and Everyday Living” (EREL), a class run by the Garces Foundation. Instruction is geared toward the restaurant industry and is aimed at achieving advancement in the profession and competence in identifying and using community resources, including healthcare services.

Laurann Krischner, Katie Bang and Nickie Ferguson are three Stillwater residents — and they’re also sisters!  Recently, the trio decided to launch a youth literacy initiative that will deliver free books to the doorsteps of children in the area.  The idea is an extension of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which has gifted more than 161 million free books since 1995.  Now, Bridge to Books hopes to make a similar lasting impact on the Stillwater community.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection initially came to the conclusion that it would simply be too “unsafe” to remove the graffiti that currently remains on the Cliffs.  However, they recently made the decision to allow Community Search and Rescue (CommSAR) to voluntarily perform the cleanup!

CommSAR is a nonprofit organization that assists in search-and-rescue efforts on public lands.  As far as the NJDEP is concerned, there’s no better group of volunteers to get the job done!
